The story is set during the 1920s where Govind, a stable boy, is drawn to a spiritied horse named Azaad that belongs to a rebel leader, Vikram Singh. A series of events force Govind to flee his village and join Vikram's rebel group. Govind gradually becomes attached to Azaad and eventually inherits the horse. When the British authorities try to claim the horse for themselves, Govind finds a sense of purpose and courage through Azaad that leads him to a journey of rebellion and awakening for the country's fight for freedom.
